After the Interview

What to consider after your interview.

Congratulations! You’ve completed the interview! With a few additional follow-up steps, you’ll increase your chances of moving forward to a second interview or a job offer!

Reflect

Take some time to reflect on the interview. How do you feel about your responses to the interviewers’ questions? What questions were asked that you weren’t expecting? Note any areas where you could improve.

Respond

Write a thank-you note(s) to the interviewer(s), expressing your appreciation for their time and reiterating your interest in the position. Ideally, this email will be sent the same day of your interview, or within 24 hours. Send an email to all interviewers and include the recruiter (or original point of contact) as well. This gesture shows your enthusiasm and professionalism.

Repeat

If the interviewer provided a timeline for next steps, wait until that time has passed and then follow up with a polite email or phone call to inquire about the status of your application. Stay positive, as it may take some time to hear back from the interviewer.
