Academic Success Volunteers
Academic Success Program
10,000 Degrees Academic Success volunteers work directly in Marin County public school classrooms to support K-12 students from low-income backgrounds. Established in 1997 as Marin County School Volunteers, the program merged with 10,000 Degrees in 2017. Inside the classroom, volunteers deliver targeted academic tutoring, manage small-group activities, and assist teachers with differentiated instruction to meet various learning levels. They work one-on-one with students to clarify lessons, guide them through homework assignments, and reinforce foundational reading, writing, and math skills.
Beyond daily classroom support, volunteers support staff in the delivery of specialized 10,000 Degrees workshops to reach the greatest number of students. This includes guiding high school students through college essay writing sessions—helping them brainstorm, structure, and edit their personal statements—and assisting staff during Money Matters financial literacy workshops.
Our team of over 130 volunteers dedicates more than 4,000 hours annually to directly support 1,008 students across 20 Marin County schools. We deeply appreciate the hands-on commitment of our volunteers and partnering schools in making this vital program possible!
