Being the first in my family to attend college, this was new territory for all of us. Having to figure out how the systems work was a daunting challenge. How do I pick classes? How does financial aid work? What will the transition from high school to college be like? These are only some of the questions I had at the start of my college journey.
Fortunately, I was able to participate in a summer bridge program through EOP that helped me understand what it takes to succeed at the university level. I also joined a cultural student organization my second year, which not only allowed me to find my community, but also helped build my confidence and develop my leadership skills. It truly made me feel like I found my home away from home.
My college experience was one of ups and downs. I learned a lot, matured, and met so many amazing people along the way. The experiences that I had led me to where I am today: supporting students as they begin their college journey. 10,000 Degrees has refined my skill-set and given me the opportunity to make an impact on students’ lives so pursuing higher education is a little less daunting.
