“Having direct support from 10,000 Degrees has made the first-gen experience at UC Santa Barbara much more smooth. Navigating my academic career post-high school by myself was initially terrifying to me. No one in my family had attended college so I knew that I would have to figure most of it out on my own. Specifically, being apart of SOAR has helped me find a sense of community within the larger higher education. Hangouts in the SOAR program have taught me about stress-management, financial aid, interview skills and post-grad life. I feel more prepared to transition from my academic career into my professional career thanks to the resources and opportunities that 10,000 Degrees has provided me with.”
