“Pursuing a college degree amidst my parents’ separation presented significant emotional challenges. However, my mother’s encouragement and assistance enabled me to overcome these obstacles, along with the absence of my father’s support.
My parents inspired me to attend Santa Rosa Junior College. Since the beginning of high school, they have motivated me to attend college because it’s an important step to having a promising career and job.
If it weren’t for my parents motivating me to go to college, I honestly wouldn’t have continued my education. My mom has always been there to give the best support and advice, encouraging me to work hard and push myself to not drop out of college.
Getting involved with 10,000 Degrees was a huge step toward my future. I wanted to be involved in a program that would support me all senior year with scholarships, getting prepared for college, and filling out college applications—and still stick with me through college.
10,000 Degrees gives high school students an extra hand in creating their future. I now have a stronger understanding of all my college scholarships and applications. 10,000 Degrees prepared me for college and gave me funds that will help support the path I’m taking.
Being successful with a good future and job would make my family happy. I want my parents to see that I can reach my goal, have a good career, and that I am hardworking, successful, and a good person.
I am ONE Degree of Change because I’ve worked so hard to be where I am right now.
Getting an education and becoming a college graduate is important because it will help me get a good career and allow me to be a good role model for my brothers.”
