10,000 Degrees Hosts ‘Alumni Changemakers’ Celebration on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at the Julia Morgan Ballroom in San Francisco
San Rafael, Calif. (September 1, 2022) – 10,000 Degrees, an organization dedicated to empowering students to enter and graduate college in eight Bay Area counties, hosts its annual Alumni Changemakers celebration on Thursday, November 3 at the Julia Morgan Ballroom in San Francisco. The 10,000 Degrees ‘Alumni Changemakers’ celebration will recognize five inspiring alumni who are making an impact in the world as changemakers in their families, careers, and communities.
Guests at the 10,000 Degrees annual ‘Alumni Changemakers’ celebration will enjoy a cocktail reception with cityscape views, a seated three-course dinner, and a program featuring inspirational storytelling from 10,000 Degrees alumni honorees.
“Our 10,000 Degrees alumni have proven how a college degree can change the course of their lives, their families’ lives, and their entire communities,” said Kim Mazzuca, 10,000 Degrees president and CEO. “The ‘Alumni Changemakers’ celebration gives us the perfect opportunity to recognize our amazing alumni, and also honors the efforts of so many in our community whose contributions and hard work help us support thousands of students and reach our goals year after year.”
“The support of 10,000 Degrees changed my life and the future of my family,” said 2021 Alumni Changemaker finalist José Soto. Soto was a 10,000 Degrees scholarship recipient and a first-generation college graduate. Today, Soto is the music specialist at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts, where he teaches children and leads the youth mariachi ensemble ‘Mariachi Cantares De Mi Tierra.’ “The ensemble was part of my vision – to provide a place for young Latinx folks to connect with their culture while experiencing the transformative power of music,” Soto said. “That was one of my dreams in life and I got there with the support of 10,000 Degrees.”
‘Alumni Changemakers’ nomination submissions are open to the public through September 5, 2022. All entries will be reviewed by 10,000 Degrees and 10 semi-finalists will be selected.
