1981

Founded as the Marin Education Foundation
Awarded $1.7M in scholarships in first three years—igniting a movement for college access.

1999

New Leadership, New Focus
Kim Mazzuca named President & CEO; mission shifts to center educational equity.

2000

College Access Program Launch
Comprehensive support begins for low-income, college-bound high school seniors.

2004

100% Equity Commitment
Fully transitions to serve only students from low-income backgrounds.

2009

Expansion to Sonoma County
Launch of first Summer Intensive at Sonoma State University.

2012

Fellowship Program Begins
Near-peer mentors—often alumni—begin guiding students through a strengths-based model.

2014

College Success Program Launch
Support expands to ensure college persistence and degree completion.

2017

Comprehensive Postsecondary Support

Expanded to Contra Costa & San Francisco Counties. Launched Community College Success & Career Success Programs.

2018

Growth in Reach & Depth
Merged with Marin County School Volunteers → Academic Success Program. Expanded to San Mateo, Napa, Lake & Santa Clara Counties. Launched Train the Trainers program

2020

Resilient Through Crisis
Pivoted to full virtual support during COVID—maintained 80%+ graduation rate.

2023

Black Student Engagement Program Launch
Backed by the NBA Foundation to increase support and outcomes for Black scholars.

2024

Advisory Boards Expanded
Boosted visibility, advocacy, and regional fundraising power.

2025

Record-Breaking Impact
440 students graduated—the largest class in our history
