Book Passage In Corte Madera Hosts Author Event In Celebration Of John B. King, Jr.’s New Book “Teacher By Teacher,” Joined In-Conversation with Kim Mazzuca, On Monday, June 9, At 6 P.M.

(June 3, 2025) – 10,000 Degrees, an organization dedicated to unlocking student success at scale by giving more students equitable opportunities for a quality college education and career success, is pleased to announce the participation of Kim Mazzuca, president and CEO of 10,000 Degrees, in a special event celebrating the launch of John B. King, Jr.’s book “Teacher By Teacher: The People Who Change Our Lives.” The author event honoring the new book by John B. King, Jr., former U.S. Secretary of Education during President Barack Obama’s administration, will be held at Book Passage in Corte Madera on Monday, June 9, 2025.

John B. King, Jr.’s book, “Teacher By Teacher,” examines the life-changing impact of teachers and mentorship, especially for those who are underserved by public institutions and social systems in America. He credits his public school teachers with saving his life, by believing in him and seeing his potential. Furthermore, “Teacher By Teacher” is about the mentors who help students overcome challenges, and an inspiration to students, parents, teachers, and everyone who believes in the transformative power of education.

About John B. King Jr.
John B. King Jr. served in President Barack Obama’s cabinet as the tenth U.S. Secretary of Education. Over the course of his extensive and influential career in public education, he has been a high school social studies teacher, a middle school principal, the first African American and Puerto Rican to serve as New York State Education Commissioner, a college professor, and the president and CEO of the Education Trust, a national education civil rights organization. King is currently the chancellor of the State University of New York (SUNY), the nation’s largest comprehensive system of public higher education. Both of King’s parents were career New York City public school educators. He lives in Brooklyn, New York, with his wife, an education researcher and former teacher, and his two daughters.
About Kim Mazzuca
Kim Mazzuca has served as president and CEO of 10,000 Degrees since 1999. A Bay Area native and first-generation college graduate, Mazzuca brings more than twenty-five years of experience in executive leadership in nonprofit management, philanthropy, and social justice. She has served on numerous boards, including the Prison University Project, Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership, and the National College Access Network Board of Directors, where she completed a three-year term as board president.
Mazzuca received the San Francisco State University’s Alumna Medal of Honor for Distinguished Service, was awarded the Executive Leadership Award of Excellence by the National College Access Network in 2015 and was the Legislative Woman of the Year for California’s 10th Assembly District. In 2014, she received the Nonprofit Leader Of The Year award by the North Bay Business Journal and was named a 2016 Game Changer by NorthBay Biz. In 2012, Mazzuca was awarded the Social Impact Business Competition Award by the Growth Philanthropy Network in New York. She holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from San Francisco State University and is a graduate of the Stanford Graduate School of Business Program for Nonprofit Leaders (where she was named a fellow in 2001). Additionally, Mazzuca completed doctoral studies at the University of San Francisco in Organization and Leadership.
