Local basketball fundraisers bring students, families and community members together to support college access and career success
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — [October 31, 2026]: 10,000 Degrees, a Northern California-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting students from low-income backgrounds to and through college and beyond into meaningful careers, will host its 2026 Hoop for Change: Free-Throw Shoot-A-Thon fundraiser series all across the San Francisco Bay Area starting at San Rafael High School in San Rafael on Saturday, October 31. The following series will take place at Northgate High School in Walnut Creek on Saturday, November 21, and then at Sports House, Redwood City on Sunday, December 6. A fourth date will be added soon at San Francisco University High School, 3065 Jackson St, San Francisco, CA 94115.
The events will bring together students, families, volunteers and community partners to raise funds for college access and student success. During the 2025-26 academic year, the series raised $130,000 across six events and corporate sponsorships, bringing together 239 participants, 55 volunteers, 315 individual donors and 14 corporate sponsors and community partners.
The fundraiser, spread out over three dates and in different areas of Northern California, offers the community an opportunity to participate and make a difference through basketball while helping students from low-income backgrounds access the resources and support they need to succeed in college and beyond. Funds raised will benefit 10,000 Degrees’ work providing scholarships, financial advising, mentorship, career readiness support and other resources to help students achieve their educational and career goals. The event will also benefit North Bay Basketball Academy and Kenny Hatch Basketball.
