I am a proud first-generation Latina college graduate and the first in my family to have pursued a higher education. My journey began with my parents instilling in my siblings and I the importance of education. We were always told to study hard so that we wouldn’t work in the fields, as my dad has done his whole life.
School and books were my safe place. Throughout my schooling, I had teachers who saw potential in me that I had not yet recognized in myself. I started at SRJC, where I decided I wanted to be a teacher and make an impact in students’ lives. I earned my associate’s degree then transferred to Sonoma State. There, I earned my bachelor’s degree, two teaching credentials, and a master’s degree. I later returned and earned an Administration and Leadership credential. I plan to continue my education further next year by pursuing a Doctorate Degree.
