I believe in the power of education to change lives because it equips people with knowledge and opens doors to opportunities/possibilities they may have never imagined. Before starting nursing school, I had no idea how versatile and full of possibilities the nursing profession truly is. I used to think nurses could only work in hospitals or nursing homes, but through my education, I’ve learned that nurses can work in so many different settings—even in places one might not expect, such as courtrooms, on cruise ships, in-flight, or even at amusement parks. Nurses can also advance their education to become healthcare providers such as nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, nurse anesthetists, or even professors. I would have never known about all these incredible paths without going to nursing school and being educated on what’s possible.
10,000 Degrees has helped me so much, from when I started my pre-nursing journey until now, when I’m about to graduate. [My 10,000 Degrees Fellow] Jonathan helped me with FAFSA, registering for classes, and navigating resources. He even checked in on me during the hardest training of my life. The scholarship program especially helped me buy expensive textbooks and supplies.
College has been hard emotionally, physically, and socially, but being able to guide others to become nurses and help my loved ones navigate the healthcare system makes it worth it. Thanks to 10,000 Degrees, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and complete my college degree. You guys are amazing!
