College was tough, especially my calculus class. I had a lot of personal problems, and it was difficult to get out of that mindset.
My involvement with 10,000 Degrees really helped me feel connected to a community. It was a place where I could communicate my progress and explain what is going on with my academics. Having check-ins helped me be aware of deadlines and opened new opportunities.
I feel like me attending college made my parents more independent. They had to do things on their own. And for me, I had to adjust to my new lifestyle and have my support system be miles away.
My Fellow, Yaquelyn, reached out to me because I wasn’t doing as well in school. I had a lot of personal issues going on, and she noticed that I wasn’t really communicating like I used to. Seeing that she reached out really meant a lot to me.
The support from 10,000 Degrees has provided a vital safety net. When I first applied, I didn’t think I was going to get it. But I did and its helped me have options and know that I can always come back and reach out.
