When I graduated high school from a credit recovery school, I had a strained relationship with education. I really had to learn good habits and how to utilize resources.
10,000 Degrees has helped me so much throughout my college journey. They’ve provided me with wonderful mentors who helped me build the courage to tackle higher education and the confidence to pursue a career in psychology. They helped me work on resumes, apply for internships, and connected me with many other resources.
Attending college has made me a stable person, a more confident, happy friend and family member. It’s helped me see a future for myself in my community. Getting an education is incredibly important because I never did well in high school, but I found a passion for learning at City College SF. It taught me that I can do things I never thought I could.
One standout 10,000 Degrees moment was seeing a UCSF Patient Support Corps internship opening in their email newsletter. I messaged Stephanie, and she helped me with my resume. It looked amazing, I applied, and I got the job. I’ve been working there for over two years now!
I honestly didn’t think I would ever have a 4.0, get into a four-year university, or even go to college. But 10,000 Degrees encouraged me with their one-to-one support and by being such a safe space on campus and through Zoom. Knowing there were people supporting me and looking out for students made me truly want to continue my education. I would love to change the world for the better by becoming a pillar in the psychological community, particularly helping first responders who experience work-related trauma, and raising awareness for mental health struggles.
