Overcoming Obstacles
Pursuing my college degree came with its challenges, specifically mental health challenges and occasional academic hurdles. Despite these, I was determined to succeed.
The Support of 10,000 Degrees
The support from 10,000 Degrees was incredibly helpful. I loved receiving reminders for FAFSA and the newsletters, which always provided great information. They helped me stay on track with important dates and provided invaluable advising. Just getting the emails with all the internships and job opportunities was also really beneficial. This support made me realize there were a lot more people there to help instead of just me having to look myself.
Impact on Family
My family always supported me, and as the first in my family to go to college and graduate, it’s had a profoundly positive impact. It sets a good example for my younger siblings and hopefully makes them want to achieve higher education as well. My family experienced a lot of financial struggles when I was growing up, which was the main reason I studied finance. I want to be able to educate others on the importance of finance and hopefully prevent others from experiencing those hardships my family went through.
The Power of Education
I believe higher education is something that a lot of people should achieve, especially since it opens a lot of opportunities for them. It’s also something that my family would be proud of me for. I believe in the power of education to change lives because I think everyone should be able to make a difference in their own lives or in other people’s lives. That’s why I am ONE Degree of Change – because I wanted to make a change!
