The Importance of Education and Community Focus
Getting an education and being a college graduate is important to me because I want to help those in disadvantaged communities. That’s why I pursued a degree in Public Health. Attending college has enabled me to provide community members with the best possible care. College taught me to be culturally competent, and it has equipped me with the necessary knowledge to improve the health of those in my community, enabling them to thrive.
Overcoming Financial Barriers with 10,000 Degrees
Tuition was a significant barrier while pursuing my college degree. I couldn’t afford school on my own, so it was amazing that I was able to receive this scholarship and support from 10,000 Degrees. Tuition assistance allowed me to avoid taking out loans, which was a significant help. Otherwise, it would have been impossible to start my program and further my career.
My involvement with 10,000 Degrees meant I was always in communication with them. When I needed assistance, they were always there for me. I would email them, and they would always check in with me to ensure that I was on track to receive scholarships. They were very supportive.
Broadening Perspective and Giving Back
I believe in the power of education to change lives because education broadens your perspective and opens you up to all types of situations in the world. It really helps you to further your career and assist others in need.
I want to help underserved communities, specifically underserved populations such as Hispanics or anyone in Sonoma County, by providing them with the resources they need. Improving the health of my community is my passion, and I want to motivate others to do the same. I am ONE degree of change because of this commitment.
