My journey with 10,000 Degrees began in high school when I joined the Summer Institute program at San Francisco University. As a newcomer from Brazil, I had little understanding of the complexities of the college admissions process. I assumed it was as simple as applying to a school and getting accepted based on grades. The 10,000 Degrees program provided the guidance I needed and opened my eyes to what the process truly entails. What sets 10,000 Degrees apart is its holistic approach— it’s not just about scholarships. The organization offers comprehensive, ongoing support from high school through to a professional career, much like a family that supports you every step of the way, providing resources beyond just college preparation.
As I transitioned into my professional life, I continued to be involved with 10,000 Degrees, initially as a mentor and recently joined the Marin Advisory Board. This role allows me to contribute on a larger scale and deepen my involvement with the organization’s work.
Supporting 10,000 Degrees is deeply rewarding because I’ve seen its effectiveness firsthand. Through events and alumni stories, I’ve witnessed how the organization changes lives. 10,000 Degrees is like a family, offering layers of guidance and resources beyond just college prep. I feel a strong commitment to giving back and helping 10,000 Degrees continue its mission for generations to come.
