As first-generation student, I faced depression from environmental changes and the anxiety of pursuing a career I wasn’t even sure I could do, which was detrimental to my motivation. However, 10,000 Degrees helped me find guides to navigate university resources, from financial aid to support tailored for my needs. They were also there to reassure me and helped with my mental stability.
Attending college has been a proud moment for my family and friends, and while there’s weight in carrying the expectations of the communities I represent, there’s also pride. Getting this education is crucial for what I want to do later in life as a teacher, and maybe a professor. My Fellows at 10,000 Degrees were particularly helpful in figuring out my path, maneuvering the college application and financial aid process, and ultimately helping me find the college I wanted to attend. I want to change the world by educating people more about history, hoping they can learn from past mistakes and build a new future from those lessons.
