Scholarships for Graduate Students
10,000 Degrees offers scholarships for graduate students pursuing Master’s Degrees in law, medicine, nursing, journalism, pursuing a teaching credential, and more. Eligibility requirements vary. We award scholarships primarily to students from low-income backgrounds in the regions we serve in the Bay Area, California and Utah.
Law School Scholarships
Marin County Bar Association Legal Education Scholarship
The Marin County Bar Association Legal Education Scholarship, established in 2011, offers awards of up to $5,000 to law school students. This scholarship is intended to support Marin County residents who are pursuing a legal education and have a passion for giving back to their community. It was created by members of the Marin County Bar Association (MCBA) with the goal of inspiring future leaders in the legal field.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be enrolled full-time in an accredited law school located in California.
- Must be a graduate of a Marin County high school or have lived in Marin County for at least 3 years immediately prior to submitting the scholarship application.
- Demonstrated financial need.
- Additional factors including academic achievements, community service, career goals, and any special circumstances will also be considered in the scholarship application.
Sonoma County Law Student Scholarship Fund
The Sonoma County Law Student Scholarship Fund, established in 2024, provides awards of up to $10,000 for law students. This scholarship is available to residents of Sonoma County or Sonoma County high school graduates who are enrolled in an accredited law school. Created by members of the Sonoma County Bar Association (SCBA), the scholarship aims to help students from Sonoma County pursue their legal education and strengthen their community ties.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be enrolled full-time in an accredited law school located in California.
- Must be a graduate of a Sonoma County high school or have a strong connection to Sonoma County.
- Demonstrated financial need.
- The scholarship also takes into account academic achievement, community involvement, career aspirations, and any special circumstances outlined in the application.
The priority deadline for the 10,000 Degrees Scholarship application for the 2025-26 school year is March 3, 2025.
Health Careers Scholarship of Sonoma County
The Sonoma County Medical Association & Alliance Health Careers Scholarship Fund, administered by 10,000 Degrees, was established in 2001 to support students pursuing a career in medicine, nursing, or other allied health fields. This scholarship is open to undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree students.
Eligibility requirements:
- Must be Sonoma County resident or have graduated from a Sonoma County high school;
- Demonstrate outstanding academic achievement with a 3.0 GPA or higher;
- Studying Medicine, Nursing, or an allied health field including Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, or Radiology Tech;
- Must submit two current letters of recommendation from instructors or professional associates (excluding relatives).
The priority deadline for the 10,000 Degrees Scholarship application for the 2025-26 school year is March 3, 2025.
Teaching Credential Scholarship
10,000 Degrees administers two scholarships for students pursuing a teaching credential:
The Marin Retired Teachers Association Scholarship was established by Marin County retired teachers to assist Marin County High School graduates pursuing Fifth-Year Teaching Credentials (or Master’s degrees in Education).
Eligibility requirements:
- Must be graduates of a Marin County high school;
- Actively pursuing Fifth-Year Teaching Credentials (or Master’s degrees in Education);
- Must maintain a minimum college GPA of 2.0.
The Building Better Teachers Scholarship supports early care and education (ECE) teachers continuing their college coursework in early development and education to earn a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
Eligibility requirements:
- Students must have lived in the Bay Area for at least one year;
- Students must be enrolled in an ECE degree program intending to pursue a career with children ages zero to five (pre-kindergarten);
- Students may be taking community college courses related to early childhood education with plans to transfer to a four-year college;
- Students must maintain a minimum college GPA of 2.0;
- Students from low- to moderate-income backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
