“I dealt with being an undocumented student in removal proceedings and had to support my family financially. I was going to drop out of high school due to having to financially support my family. My family said I did not have the luxury like my other classmates to continue my education. But someone at 10,000 Degrees said I do have the opportunity.
Now I hold an A.A.T degree in Economics, an A.A. degree in Behavioral Science, and a Certificate in Applied Accounting – all from College of Marin, and am transferring to the University of California, Berkeley to study Economics on a pre-law track. I am a paralegal and help people get their work permits, apply for U.S. Citizenship, greencard renewals, and a lot more. I became aware of my own rights, and am more confident in every aspect of my life.
I will become an attorney that will support the community. I would like to support those who lack a voice in society through letting them know of their rights. By informing people of their rights I want to make sure they’re not afraid of seeking advocacy, economic, and legal resources. I want to make sure they remain hopeful and get the closure they deserve. Through my education, I hope to gain more knowledge on economic factors that influence how households face the legal system. Knowledge is empowering, and I am committed towards helping people realize the power their voice holds, demand justice, and make the most out of the resources available to them.
I am ONE Degree of Change because I do not let my struggles get the best of me.”
