“The biggest obstacle I encountered while pursuing a college degree was navigating the new environment as a first-generation college student. 10,000 Degrees helped me obtain the funding I needed to lessen my financial stress while pursuing higher education. They also provided me with an additional resource that I could turn to when I had questions, concerns, or just wanted someone who I could speak to that understood my experience as a first-generation Latine college student.
Attending college has shown my family and friends that higher education is within their reach.
I want to change the world for the better by uplifting minorities and creating a community through our shared experiences. 10,000 Degrees helped me realize the importance of uplifting our community and taking steps to make change happen.
Getting an education and being a college graduate is so important to me because I’m paving the path for my family members and other girls like me.
The seminar Zoom meetings were the most helpful. One moment that stood out to me was meeting with a 10,000 Degrees member and talking about different master’s programs and realizing that we were both going through the scary and confusing process together.”
